Corrections and Technical Updates
How technical corrections are reflected in article content and dates.
A technical correction should update the affected statement, table or diagram and any related explanation that depends on it. A changed product specification or code edition may also affect linked guides.
What an update should clarify
Corrections address factual errors, document references, product conditions and explanations that could lead to a mistaken construction decision. A revision should identify the appropriate source and preserve the conditions needed to understand the corrected information.
Article headers display publication and update dates. Source entries identify the referenced document and its review date. These dates describe the publication record; project teams should still confirm that the document edition and local requirements are appropriate when work is planned.
When a project document conflicts with a guide
Take the actual condition, approved drawing and relevant manufacturer document to the responsible designer or building official. Resolve the discrepancy before dependent construction proceeds. Retain the accepted instruction with the project records so the contractor and inspector use the same detail.
See the editorial policy and source guide for the distinctions between model codes, product tables and project design.
